The lovesick Romeo who got thrown in prison for crossing the treacherous Irish Sea on a jet ski just to see his girlfriend has split up with her just months later, friends of the couple say. Dale McLaughlan, 28, won the heart of Jessica Radcliffe, 30, after making the mile journey from Scotland to the Isle of Man to visit his new love in December last year - spending four and a half hours at sea. The roofer from Irvine, North Ayrshire, was jailed for breaching coronavirus lockdown rules, but was freed three days before Christmas after serving 10 days of his sentence. However, friends of the couple have told The Mirror that the romantic gesture wasn't enough to make the relationship last and the couple have reportedly called it quits after McLaughlan failed to gain Isle of Man residency status.

Sir Philip Sidney states in his Apology for Poetry that poetry should both delight and teach, and both the text and the film serve this purpose well—each suited to the time in which they were presented. Shakespeare incorporated jokes of the time, mentions of royalty, and allusions to historical events in his plays. Luhrmann does this as well, pulling in numerous references to recent pop culture. Both Shakespeare and Luhrmann endeavored to delight their audiences with beautiful costumes and familiar music, and to teach them with the basic moral precepts inherent in the story.
